About Carmen the Musical
Carmen is one of the most popular operas of all time, and this accessible yet audacious reimagining of Bizet’s masterpiece is a treat for both lovers of opera and musical theatre alike. The Director of this production will be Bridget Biggar, who returns to direct MOS for the first time since 1998. The Music Directors will be David Batsman & Seann Wilkinson. David is currently our MD for The Addams Family, and Seann was our MD for Sweeney Todd last year. The creative team will be completed by Hannah Stone returning to MOS as Choreographer.
Performed in English, Carmen The Musical tells the story of tragic factory girl Carmen, torn by her passion for both soldier Don Jose and toreador Escamillo. Bizet’s unforgettable themes, from the famous Toreador’s Song to the Habanera (Love is a Rebellious Bird) and Seguidilla (Down by the Walls of Seville) are included. Dialogue replaces the opera’s recitative to create an accessible piece of musical theatre that can be enjoyed by all, yet loses none of the original’s power and emotion.
MOS’ production of Carmen The Musical will play for four nights at the Courtyard Theatre, Norden Farm Centre for the Arts from 22nd to 25th October 2025. So please join us as we travel to Seville and bring some Spanish passion to Norden Farm next autumn.
