About Maidenhead Operatic Society
Maidenhead Operatic Society (MOS) is an amateur music theatre society based in Maidenhead, Berkshire. We perform a broad range of classic music theatre, including the comic operas of Gilbert and Sullivan; the operettas of Offenbach, Strauss and Lehar; and classic musicals from the great teams like Lerner and Loewe or Rodgers and Hammerstein, to more modern musicals such as Sweeney Todd, The Addams Family and Spamalot.
Having acheived its 70th birthday in November 2020, it is also one of the oldest local societies.
We are a very friendly and welcoming group, so please think about joining us.

MOS shows open following a Band call on the Sunday followed by a Technical Rehearsal that evening, with the dress rehearsal the evening after. All the cast is expected to attend the Technical and Dress Rehearsals, and all Principals the Band Call – at which chorus are most welcome too.
Show Auditions
If you wish to join the Society you will be asked to audition, usually at the end of a rehearsal evening in front of the Music Director, Chairman and Producer. Chorus auditions are “closed” i.e. only in front of the Auditioning Panel.
If you have appeared in one of the last four MOS productions you need not re-audition to join the chorus.
People wishing to audition for Principal/Solo parts are requested to fill in a form prior to the Audition date, with address etc., and notifying us of any other shows they are likely to be in around the same time. Principal auditions are ‘open’ i.e. sung in front of the Auditioning Panel and any members who wish to attend.
Social Events:
There are a number of social/fund-raising events each year, most of them arranged under our “Fun for a Fiver” banner. These events give us an opportunity to socialise with each other and our families and friends, and also raise funds to help ‘make ends meet’.
Examples include:
- Quiz Evenings
- Summer Bar-B-Q
- Skittles Evenings
- Games Evening
